Marathon Taper
Tapering for the marathon is overrated. What does it get you? Fresh legs, maybe, unless you tapered too much, then they just get stale and feel like cement blocks during the race. More energy, yes, but for what use? Jan and I began our tapers for WDW a few days ago, which coincided nicely with New Year's day and time off from work. But it also meant way too much time on our hands.
What could a husband and wife do with so much extra energy, time off from work, kids all back at their own homes, running less? Hmmm. Yes! That's It! We could watch marathon sessions of HGTV and TLC Flip That House shows. Surely we could come up with doable projects at our house?
And so there I was, paint brush in hand, putting on the first of two or three coats of paint on our kitchen molding. Everything was going well, I was painting up a storm listening to Benny Goodman on my new under the cabinet cd player Jan had bought me for Christmas. I thought Jan was still working on the computer when Goodman's "Sing, sing, sing" began. Forgetting about the paint brush I began dancing around the kitchen.
Who could resist?

Who could resist?Unfortunately my dancing is similar to Elaine's on Seinfeld. The paint started flying off the brush just as Jan came into the kitchen. For some reason she didn't appreciate my style or her newly acquired white spots.
Eventually the painting will be completed. But I am banned from listening to big band music whenever doing home improvement projects. Jan also said I have to come with other, less chaos creating methods of using my pent up energy. Let's Race!
Eileen and I wish you and Jan the best of luck this weekend. Your training will surely pay off. After you qualify and rest, be prepared to be trained into the ground. I am shooting for a 3:24 in Buffalo and chasing you down should get me there.
